The Blink Video Doorbell is completely wire-free and runs on three AA lithium batteries (included) with up to two years of battery life. You can install it anywhere without drilling through walls or dealing with electrical wiring. However, if you prefer, you can connect it to your existing doorbell wiring (8-24 VAC required) to make your traditional chime ring. Note that even when hardwired, batteries are still required for the doorbell to function.

The included one-year subscription gives you cloud storage for all your video clips, person detection alerts (so you're notified when an actual person is at your door, not just motion), and Blink Moments which automatically stitches multiple clips together into a single shareable video. Yes, if you have existing doorbell wiring with 8-24 VAC (up to 40 VA), you can connect the Blink Video Doorbell to make your traditional chime ring when someone presses the button. Wire extenders are included to help with installation. If you don't have existing wiring or prefer wire-free installation, you can still receive notifications through the Blink app on your smartphone whenever someone rings the doorbell.
